Cluttered to Crisp – Before. The 1980s renovation left these empty nesters with a cluttered, inefficient bathroom that didn’t match their updated kitchen nearby. After. A clean, streamlined design by Susan Ozipko of sO Interiors gives the couple function and storage in a small space. The new features, such as the floating toilet and vanity, sit against a wall of statuario marble tiles. The homeowners replaced the tub-shower combo with a glass-doored shower.
Blah Beige to Beautiful Blue – Before. A bulky vanity and a sliding shower door make this Eichler home’s bathroom feel cramped and dark. After. Vibrant blue tiles in an oversized hexagon pattern give the bathroom an immediate focal point. Next, the client got design advice from designer Pamela Lin of Urbanism Designs and had this custom vanity made for the space. Across from the vanity, the bathroom has a tub-shower combo with a glass panel.

Be American – Make your bathroom bigger. If you’re feeling patriotic, and have the space to spare, you can extend the area of your toilet and bath. It’s as American as apple pie. If you only have a shower stall, you can tear down a non-load-bearing wall and give yourself a proper bathtub. If you already have a bathtub, punch out some closet space from the next room, and give yourself a whirlpool tub. Whatever size bathroom you’ve got, there are always options for going bigger.
Ho-Hum to Inviting – Before. The clients thought their bathroom was spacious, especially for New York City, but they wanted it to have more personality and function. After. By combining the shower and tub, designer Nicholas Kaess of NYKB was able to add storage, a stackable washer and dryer, and a sitting area for applying makeup. New style touches include antique brass finishes, Carrara marble countertops and a gold-tone grille over the radiator along the back wall.
That is why if you are planning on remodeling your bathroom as you go along, it might be a great idea to do your own remodeling. Not needing to have everything arranged, such as your replacement tub or lavatory, is one amongst the many benefits to doing your personal bathroom remodeling.
